Jenna Haze-Exxxotica Denver

Jenna Haze Exxxotica Denver

While on the flight descending upon Denver a few days prior to the beginning of Exxxotica, I started to think about what to expect. You see, once you’ve experienced the Exxxotica Expo over a handful of times you kind of have an idea. You have your givens and the regulars. Whether it’s the talent, the vendors, the production companies, the fetish toys etc. However, I saw someone that I didn’t expect to see. Someone who had retired six years ago.

I met her for the first time about eight years back at Exxxotica Miami Beach while she was at the height of her popularity. I am talking of course about Jenna Haze. So, as I approached her booth at the Bad Dragon section of the convention center, I wasn’t quite sure if my eyes were playing tricks on me or it was another starlet that happened to resemble her. Once the sea of people cleared & I was able to catch a closer glimpse at the name on her table my suspicions were confirmed. I began to engage her in an indepth conversation that spanned through her entire career. She told me that this is her “farewell tour” as she described it. The final chance to say goodbye to her fans.

There was a certain air of wisdom to her words. She has been through a lot during her time in the industry & you can definitely tell she was more than willing to divulge her knowledge onto others. You know the “Do’s & Don’t’s”, the “pros & cons” the learning curve “ups & downs” & the insight that she wished she had then but cherishes now. On her table she had pictures & DVDs that she was prepared to sign for her loyal fans. The DVDs were most certainly dated. I could tell by the talent on the covers. Some of them were from yesteryear and were also retired. Some would say this collection of assorted DVDs will soon be considered vintage.

There was a nostalgic, slight melancholy vibe to our conversation but I welcomed it. Enthusiasts such as I of the adult industry can really appreciate moments like these. Hopefully the fans in the upcoming cities can see her one last time. I’m sure the real hardcore fans will make the pilgrimage to the venues to say a final goodbye. Thank you Jenna Haze for the memories. You have left your mark and it is a beautiful thing to behold.

AVN & AEE 2017-Strip Club Journals

AEE & AVN Season 2017

@ZifiStripClub

The AVN season is a season of freedom. As an industry we celebrate the best of the best and all the sacrifices that come along with being one of the best of the best. Resilient people make up the adult industry. Freedom mixed with resilience leads to many different places, but success and the freedoms of the adult industry bring us all together.

Avn season is always predictably unpredictable. Every year I try to plan and prepare for AEE and the AVN Awards in Las Vegas, but I also take into consideration that magical moments cannot always be planned. With a handful of large convention rooms filled with the madness of adult actors, webcam models, fans, press, sex toys, and excitement:  I never know what will catch my eye and/or attention.

This year at the 2017 AEE and AVN awards I realized resilience is another key factor in being a successful part of the adult industry. People love to hate sex workers and adult entertainers. Therefore, it only makes dollars and sense that adult industry workers must be able to go against the odds tenaciously and persevere with resilience because we are all bound to publicly make mistakes.

“Meeting new faces. Catching up with old friends going places. Solidifying bonds in a networking atmosphere. Establishing professional relationships with the backdrop of a city that loves to party till the sunlight blinds your dehydrated self as the night blends into day like a perfectly mixed cocktail served chilled & stirred to a rhythm we all understand & fully embrace.” ~Enrique Arellano, Adventures of the Mayor(@EAFLOWS)

AE Expo 2017 was packed full of adult stars and it seems to get larger with every year. The crowds gawk at various things and people while I observe, mingle, and network. I remember my first AE Expo and just how huge and overwhelming it felt. With time the exponential impact of the adult entertainment expo on a career in the adult industry becomes less stressful, but in reality anything can happen for anyone who fully turns on their shine during this event.

“It is like a fun industry family reunion.” ~Joe Evans(@NoRealValue)

The 2017 AEE was filled with extremely business minded adult stars who were hustling and bustling to make it to all the different booths and to network and meet as many fans as possible. When you are your business, literally, there is a certain amount of drive required. No one person can or will hand you success. It is something everyone must manifest for themselves in the adult industry.

“I had so much fun this year! I didn’t keep a schedule, did a random expo for once! It was amazing and I even walked away with a contract! I focused more on meeting companies and networking than meeting with fans this year. Sorry fans, I have to grow the Shawna Lenee Show brand! It was well worth it but will definitely have to make up lost time with fans next year!!” ~Shawna Lenee(@ShawnaLeneeShow)

Interviewing adult actors on the red carpet at AVN 2017 felt like porn star speed dating. Another challenge I never thought I would encounter. However, after days of walking around the AE expo it was a welcoming test. So many stars, so many names, so many questions, so little time…

On the AVN red carpet Eva Lovia(@FallinLovia) and I had a moment to chit chat about her career and how she is now where she wants to be, but she made a lot of mistakes along her way to success. However, with hard work and trial and error she has made it! Eva Lovia has a career that continues to blossom. She retains tenacity with an always welcoming smile. Keep up with Eva Lovia on her favorite social media:  Instagram @LoviaLongTime.

Overall AEE and AVN 2017 were an amazing season. Surrounding yourself with others who work in the adult industry is a freedom we look forward to all year long. A break from the stigmas of mainstream society, a chance to breathe much like when taking off stilettos after a long night of work. The relief of knowing you are not alone literally surrounds every adult worker who attends the AE Expo and AVN awards. Belonging is a priceless feeling we all seek.

The irony of the AEE and AVNs is often you learn more about yourself than the people you actually go to interview and meet.

“AVN is always a blast! The more you attend the more like a yearly reunion it becomes which is really part of the overall experience, especially not being based on the west coast! It always renews the fire and motivation for the year ahead to see all the new tech and concepts coming out from all areas of the industry. Is it January 2018 yet?” ~Demon Seed Radio(@Demonseed69)

AEE 2016-Strip Club Journals Unbound (Unedited)

Early one morning at the AEE 2016 Expo, I literally ran into Ryan Driller(@RyanDriller) with my coffee in hand. Still in the daze of unusual morning hours and hair and makeup routine the rest of the crew did not have to go through, I was not quite all there I have to admit. But I was pushed in the right direction literally and ran into Ryan Driller who was kind enough to take time to speak with Strip Club Journals.

Half asleep and in my morning daze I had a conversation with Ryan Driller that was supposed to be an interview, but ended up to be more like a conversation. He has a way of putting people at ease while being charismatic at the same time. This was extremely surprising and took me aback, setting him apart from the rest. We joked about what it was like to be “kind of a big deal” and Ryan shared stories of excited fans in grocery stores. Those being his most uncomfortable fan experiences.

In person I was impressed with Ryan Driller. Not only did he have his career on a path and longevity in the adult film industry, but he willingly shared charisma with a genuine smile. This was his eighth AVN Expo/Awards, so this was nothing new to him. Little did I know what a big deal Ryan Driller is in the adult film industry. Unplanned interviews are always the best and most organic.

Ryan Driller left me with a good feeling about the adult film industry. We had a kind, genuine, educated exchange even though I had no clue who he was. Had I known all I know now I would have been really nervous to speak with Ryan Driller, let alone interview him. He was just a guy and I was just happy to not have spilled my coffee on him. At times being a small town girl at heart really does blow my mind(pun intended).

Now after research, I realize the unique journey Ryan Driller/Jeremy Bilding has taken through the adult film industry. Never in person did he lead on to how large his accomplishments are. He is a humble person, which made him approachable. In person I was beyond impressed with him in so many ways. Little did I know by researching and talking to people I would find out what a fancy person Ryan Driller is in the adult film industry. He has evolved through the industry from someone who did gay porn and straight porn. Then did a total cross over into mainstream adult films. He even took a pay cut to be the first successful male cross over in the adult film industry(straight men get paid less than gay men in the adult film industry). This was something I could respect, setting boundaries even though they have a literal monetary price tag. This is a reoccurring theme throughout the adult industry that cannot seem to be fathomed by the “real world”.

In person Ryan Driller told me that separation of work and real life is just that, “It’s Work, It’s work,” he said with a nonchalant look on his face like he was a garbage man speaking of work.

From Denver, Colorado originally Ryan Driller seems like the cute guy who lives down the street. It is no wonder why women hassle him at the grocery store. His personality matches his good looks and he has the “it” factor that can make or break an entertainer of any kind.

With coffee in hand it was a pleasant surprise to start a day at the AEE 2016 Interacting with Ryan Driller.

Another “morning” at the AEE 2016 again with my coffee in hand I stumbled upon another amazing interview:  Lexington Steele(@LexSteele11 & http://www.LexingtonSteele.com). He has been in the industry for nearly 20 years and was someone I had never heard of before we met at AEE 2016. The theme of longevity in the adult industry film industry seemed to naturally create itself merely through interactions.

Lexington Steele was kind and even pulled out a chair for me so we could sit and have a conversation on the edge of the buzzing crowd full of press and fans. By the crowd, I could tell I found a gem. My first question(as usual), “Is this your first year at the AVN Expo?” He politely answered, “No, this is my 18th AVN Expo/Awards.” At this point I knew he was the one I could ask my real open-ended questions to as to what it is really like to be an adult film actor in the long-term.

The main thing that stuck out about Lexington Steele besides his manners and being so down to earth was his quote, “It is a business.” I did not quite understand the emphasis he put on this simple statement until the research came into play. Lexington Steele was a stock broker on Wall Street before he became a full-time adult actor in LA in 1998. With his degree from Syracuse University and a lucrative career in NYC, Lexington Steele became apart of the adult industry for a better quality of life. The corporate style quality of life just was not for him.

In his career, Lexington Steele has acquired over 25 AVN Awards and is the first male to win Male Performer of the Year Award three times. Also, he is more than just an adult actor. In 2003 Lexington Steele started his own production company(Mercenary Motion Pictures), and it is still growing till this day, He resides as CEO on the company board. Directing is also something Lexington Steele added to his resume, as well as mainstream television appearances such as on the tv show “Weeds”.

Lexington Steele has made a career out of the adult film industry. He branched out into so many different aspects of the adult industry/entertainment industry, thus allowing himself residual income once he stops working actively on-screen. Taking the multidimensional path may not be easy, but it is a sure way to guarantee yourself a career in any industry.

Success and longevity have commonalities throughout the universe.
