The Great Interracial Debate

When your job is in sex work how much of a personal preference are you allowed to have? Lately there has been a lot of uproar against performers who do not do interracial sparking from a controversial, now deleted, blog post by adult performer Bella Rose. The performer discussed her personal reasoning for not shooting interracial scenes, a popular category in porn that sells well often leading to a higher payday for performers.

While some performers will only work with people they are attracted to, or like performing with, others are willing and ready to shoot with anyone to get the job done. It is almost impossible to determine if someone’s personal preference is genuinely law of attraction or based off biased thinking passed down through generations. While Bella brought up the fact that often performers will “save” their first interracial scene for months or years to obtain a higher payday by creating a greater demand, some performers have stated they will flat-out never perform an interracial scene. Adult performers have even stated that doing an interracial scene would cost them their white audience and fans who would stop buying their work if they do interracial. On the other hand, there are many performers and an entire agency, Spiegler Girls, who refuse to charge more for a scene based off of the costars skin color.

We may never get down to the bottom of every single performers reasoning for deciding when and if they perform interracial, but with more access to performers through social media some make it known publicly as Bella did. Back several years ago the top performers did not do interracial, including Jenna Jameson, Alexis Texas, Tera Patrick, and several others. As porn changes and progresses we are seeing more performers doing anal, interracial, girl on girl, boy girl scenes and anything else to get them recognition and bookings from directors looking to push the envelope further than in previous years.

Xrco Awards-Hollywood 2017

Last night were the Xrco Awards at the Ohm Nightclub in Hollywood. These events and conventions are starting to feel similar to extended family holiday gatherings. The dynamics vary, but the guarantee of excitement mixed with alcohol and booming voices are always present. The adult industry is like a family and shows love to most everyone, but yet competition within the industry is encouraged. It is human nature to want to be appreciated for your career. These award shows allow for these magical moments to unravel.

The Xrco Awards are a great memory and experience to have been blessed with!

Jenna Haze-Exxxotica Denver

Jenna Haze Exxxotica Denver

While on the flight descending upon Denver a few days prior to the beginning of Exxxotica, I started to think about what to expect. You see, once you’ve experienced the Exxxotica Expo over a handful of times you kind of have an idea. You have your givens and the regulars. Whether it’s the talent, the vendors, the production companies, the fetish toys etc. However, I saw someone that I didn’t expect to see. Someone who had retired six years ago.

I met her for the first time about eight years back at Exxxotica Miami Beach while she was at the height of her popularity. I am talking of course about Jenna Haze. So, as I approached her booth at the Bad Dragon section of the convention center, I wasn’t quite sure if my eyes were playing tricks on me or it was another starlet that happened to resemble her. Once the sea of people cleared & I was able to catch a closer glimpse at the name on her table my suspicions were confirmed. I began to engage her in an indepth conversation that spanned through her entire career. She told me that this is her “farewell tour” as she described it. The final chance to say goodbye to her fans.

There was a certain air of wisdom to her words. She has been through a lot during her time in the industry & you can definitely tell she was more than willing to divulge her knowledge onto others. You know the “Do’s & Don’t’s”, the “pros & cons” the learning curve “ups & downs” & the insight that she wished she had then but cherishes now. On her table she had pictures & DVDs that she was prepared to sign for her loyal fans. The DVDs were most certainly dated. I could tell by the talent on the covers. Some of them were from yesteryear and were also retired. Some would say this collection of assorted DVDs will soon be considered vintage.

There was a nostalgic, slight melancholy vibe to our conversation but I welcomed it. Enthusiasts such as I of the adult industry can really appreciate moments like these. Hopefully the fans in the upcoming cities can see her one last time. I’m sure the real hardcore fans will make the pilgrimage to the venues to say a final goodbye. Thank you Jenna Haze for the memories. You have left your mark and it is a beautiful thing to behold.

AEE 2017-Part One

@ZiFiStripClub

Avn season is always predictably unpredictable. Every year I try to plan and prepare for AEE and the AVN Awards in Las Vegas, but I also take into consideration that magical moments cannot always be planned. With a handful of large convention rooms filled with the madness of adult actors, webcam models, fans, press, sex toys, and excitement:  I never know what will catch my eye and/or attention.
The week before AVN 2017, I was hectically finishing my second book, “A Decade On A Pole”. My book editor, Robert Bryant(@DemonSeed69) and I spent many late nights and early mornings fine tuning the first year of my syndicated magazine column:  “Strip Club Journals Unbound”. These columns along with advice and tools on surviving the adult industry make up “A Decade On A Pole” which is now available on iTunes and Amazon.

Monday Jan 16th, 2017
This is a very important week for my career. It will set the tone for the rest of the year. With two books out on Amazon and iTunes my career as an author and journalist will grow exponentially in the next year. A career defining moment of my life will unravel throughout 2017. I hope, pray, and manifest the best possible outcome. Failing and falling on my face is a possibility, but if I do not try I will always wonder what if! Feeling alive and evolving makes me nauseous.

Tonight was the opening cocktail party for AEE 2017. It was great to relax with the people we work with nationwide actually in the flesh. Seeing most of your adult industry friends in one place is nearly unheard of, but it does happen this magical week in the Las Vegas desert. Joe Evans(@norealvalue), Enrique Arellano(@eaflows), Robert Bryant(@demonseed69), Kevin Young, DJ Lee(Spearmint Rhino Gentlemen’s Club, Las Vegas), and I all had the opportunity to grab a meal after the opening cocktail party. This was the most wholesome adult industry fun I have had in a long time. We all have chosen the adult industry as a career in many different niches and regions with success. My hope and faith are restored to new heights after being surrounded by like-minded people.

When you realize you dreamed too big too quickly…
Today I had to give up on my goal of an AEE 2017 book. However, I realized all the networking I have done along the way is starting to payoff. Going out of my comfort zone this year and going to the AVN nomination party in Hollywood to network with even more adult industry people was a great career move. Personal appearances and independent writing assignments will be more beneficial to my career within the next year than anything else. After staying home to write books last year it is time to get out of my house!

Friday Jan 20th, 2017
I am tired and beyond sleep deprived. In the past two nights I have slept maybe 10 hours total. I love AEE & AVN, but being attractive, business savvy, and a woman journalist in the adult industry is at least two full time jobs. Plus, meeting so many amazing people makes it difficult to call it an early night. Next AEE is the only time we are guaranteed to see these people so we make the best of it all.

Before Expo & Red Carpet

Here I sit at Mr Lucky’s at the hard rock hotel in Las Vegas eating eggs with my big hair and war paint. Tonight will be my second AVN red carpet event this season. My war paint may be on, but the butterflies on my insides just won’t stop. Knowing anything can happen is an amazing feeling when embraced. I can only imagine what the numerous nominees feel like.

After Expo & Red Carpet

My first AVN Red Carpet was in Hollywood at the Avn Nomination Party and tonight I finished the Avn season with the Red Carpet in Las Vegas. What an amazing experience! Pushing out of my comfort zone and being on camera is a challenge. Although I do see myself improving, it is still not my favorite or natural niche in journalism. However, it is always necessary to evolve in your career. Evolution is not comfortable otherwise everyone would do it!

The irony of the AEE and AVNs is often you learn more about yourself than the people you actually go to interview and meet.
