Being career minded is a key factor which separates individuals who succeed in the adult industry from the individuals who allow themselves to be used by the industry. The AVN Expo 2015, in Vegas, was a perfect example of this key factor. It was an extremely pleasant way to network and weed out individuals who use the industry as a way to get by. Rather than as a stepping stone to something greater. Being surrounded by so much active talent within the adult industry was a high I had never before experienced. The creativity and wisdom flowed through the convention unapologetically. If one is brave enough in their career to go against the grain, they are more likely to be open and understanding of others. Nothing like being judged for what you do, rather than who you are, to bring us all together.
The talent was not limited to the adult actors and models. It was shocking how much creative talent goes into the adult industry. Meeting radio, television, photography, and other media talent involved in covering the AVN Expo for the rest of the world to enjoy, made me realize the extreme fascination mainstream society has with the adult industry. Therefore, the work everyone in the adult industry puts forth is for the entertainment and enjoyment of others. This is another commonality that brings Everyone in the adult industry together. We all aim to please!
“Our sex is safer than your sex, over 80% of the time. So, stop trying to tell us what to do and how to have sex. We are protected, we are careful, and we do a better job of it than you do.” ~Kayla Jane Danger
The AVN Expo was a great reminder of all the positive opportunities within the adult industry.
After being at the AVN Expo and being surrounded by “my people” it has been a rough transition to come home to Portland and my everyday life. I missed my real life, but I loved the thrill of working again. After months of recovering and being a bum it felt amazing to be the career driven person I am at heart. Working smarter rather than harder is not always as easy as it may seem. It tests your patience beyond belief at moments. However, it is like chess: plan and play to win.
So now, I am back to my “Real Life” and I appreciate it beyond belief, because it allows me to remain grounded. I cannot lie I miss the thrill of living the adult industry lifestyle at times. Then I remember how amazing it is to have security and someone who wants and values having me around.
How the times change! From being loved by the masses to being truly loved by one. I like it!
Interviewing Kayla Jane Danger at the AVN Expo was a greatly unexpected opportunity. Walking through the AVN Expo is unavoidably overstimulating. The crowds block and steer you in different directions. However, this worked out and steered Adventures Of The Mayor and I toward Kayla Jane Danger, while she had a rare free moment.
My first impression of Kayla Jane Danger was refreshing. She is a kind-hearted, educated, and funny woman who uses the adult industry to her full advantage. We started interacting by joking about having small breasts and not thinking it was an issue until we worked places that require pasties(Cutting pasties in half is what women in the industry with small breasts often have to do). These funny little experiences unite women in the adult industry. Even after getting breast implants, I still remember how maddening this issue used to be.
Kayla, originally from NY, lives in Las Vegas and owns a porn company along with being an adult actress. Her long list of accomplishments and endeavors is beyond impressive. Including a book available on Amazon(Pleasure Or Pain) and her websites MyDollParts.com and KaylaJanePOV.com. This beautiful lady is a business woman at heart! She is a perfect example of how a woman can use the adult industry to her advantage.
I am not sure if interviewing Kayla or researching her afterwards was more enjoyable. However, she did have one of the best quotable moments during our interview. Her answer made me realize how brave and powerful this delicate woman is.
Me: “If you could educate mainstream society about the adult industry, what is the one thing you like them to know?”
