The 33rd annual XRCO awards were held April 27th in Hollywood, California at the OHM nightclub. As the AVN Awards are the “Oscar’s of Porn”, the XRCO Awards are the “Academy Awards of Porn”. This adult industry awards show is voted on by only adult industry members. Thus, making it an experience of who is who within the adult industry.
The XRCO voters are a group of writer and editors within the adult industry called the American X-Rated Critics Organization. In 1984 when the XRCO awards began, the American X-Rated Critics Organization was only an American based group of voters. However over the years, they have evolved into an international organization. All members of the X-Rated Critics Organization are active members of the adult industry. Thus, making the XRCO awards unique and one of a kind.
“Another great High school reunion of jocks, cool kids, dorks, and that one “medicated” chick crawling around on the dirty concrete. Can’t wait for another reunion!” ~Ivan, The Puba Network (@IamIvanxxx)
As an adult industry journalist, this was first awards show I attended as a guest rather than as press. The differences were astounding. I normally attend adult industry events alone. Award shows are work and not a social function. However this time, I allowed myself the opportunity to enjoy the XRCO awards show as a social function with a slight agenda to capture the events of the night.
Holly Hendrix was one of the favorites of the night. She won the 2017 XRCO “Superslut” award. This matched with her 2017 AVN award for “Best New Starlet” put her on the list of adult actresses to keep an eye on. Greatness awaits her if her she keeps herself in the favor of the adult industry votes and the fan votes. What a great way to start a career and what a beautiful little lady!
Briana Banks won the “Best Cumback” award for 2017. She is represented by OC Modeling and had many great things to say when she found out she was an award winner.
“I’m thrilled to have won this award, I put all my heart and energy into my comeback. I have to thank all the directors that continue to use me in their productions, my publicity team, Star Factory PR, and all the reviewers who are part of the XRCO for recognizing my performances. I have a lot of exciting projects on the horizon, and I can’t wait to share them with everyone.”~Briana Banks
Kleio Valentien took home the award for “Best Actress” for playing Harley Quinn in the adult movie “Suicide Squad XXX: An Axel Braun Parody”. “Best Actor” awards went to Tommy Pistol for his role in the same movie: Suicide Squad XXX: An Axel Braun Parody. Plus, shockingly enough, “Suicide Squad XXX: An Axel Braun Parody” won the award for “Best Parody”. Also, director Axel Braun won “Best Director (Parody)”. If this many people within the adult industry think this movie and its performers are this great it is probably worth giving a whirl.

As with every adult industry event I learn more about myself than the adult stars I go to research and study. This specific Thursday night in Hollywood with the walk of fame stars on the sidewalks, the fresh spring air mixed with the smell of marijuana, and my “Entitled Writer” shirt on I realized I may be an adult industry journalist, but I will always be on the outside looking in. My roots maybe in the adult industry, but I never made the leap to in front of the camera and onto film. This is a fine line that makes a world of difference within adult industry niches.
How far is one willing to take the adult industry to get fame, fortune, and a career they can retire off of in such a taboo manner? The envelope will continue to be pushed with the test of time, but let us take a moment to celebrate all the individuals who make their career out of pushing the envelope. Without these people we as a society would be lost!
A big thank you to Jim Blakely(@JTBPhoto1) for contributing photos from the XRCO awards.
